EMBU: Residents of Embu have expressed a range of views following the nomination of Professor Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President by President William Ruto, succeeding Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached. Many residents have praised the decision, citing Kindiki’s qualifications and experience as key factors in their support.
According to Kenya News Agency, Professor Kindiki’s nomination has been well-received by some, who believe his experience in governance, administration, and law make him a suitable candidate for the role. Kirangacha Mwaniki, a political lobbyist, emphasized the significance of Kindiki’s nomination as a milestone for Mt. Kenya East, marking the first time the region has produced a Deputy President. Mwaniki stated, “For over 50 years, we have supported our brothers from Mt. East from the time of first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and it is time now for them to reciprocate the gesture.”
The nomination is seen by some as a step towards equality and the eradication of tribal and ethnic divis
ions within the region. Several residents noted that Kindiki had been a favored candidate during the election campaign, with both local leaders and residents advocating for his appointment.
Gikundo wa Gikundo, a resident, praised Kindiki’s integrity, highlighting his clean record free from criminal or corruption allegations. However, not all opinions were entirely positive. Joseph Njeru expressed concerns regarding the impeachment process of the former Deputy President, arguing that public participation was insufficient given that the former Deputy was elected on the same ticket as the President.
