Reopening of Schools Central to Discussions at Provincial Consultation Framework in Kossin

Koosin: The High Commissioner of the province of Kossin, Noufo Dembele, chaired the second ordinary session of the provincial consultation framework, focusing on the theme “The economic recovery of populations returned to their places of origin” and the progress in reopening schools and educational establishments.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the session, which took place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, highlighted the resettlement of 9,220 households, equating to 70,256 returnees, with 42,784 individuals having received assistance. The provincial director in charge of humanitarian action, Alassane Kagone, emphasized the challenges faced during resettlement and the necessity for sustainable solutions, with efforts directed towards economic recovery through various interventions.

In his report, Kagone detailed interventions including food and non-food assistance aimed at stabilizing returnees, alongside projects to enhance resilience and support income-generating activities. The session also reviewed the reopening of educational institutions, with positive developments noted by provincial directors.

Ferdinand Karfa Boni, the provincial director of secondary education, reported the reopening of 118 post-primary classes and 34 secondary classes, accommodating 6,803 students. In primary education, director Adama Dao reported the reopening of 54 schools and seven preschool centers, with 11 schools remaining relocated.

Despite ongoing challenges, the session expressed optimism in the presidential initiative for quality education, which aims to address infrastructure and resource issues. The Burkina Red Cross, in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council and other NGOs, outlined ongoing and future interventions, targeting 27,472 individuals for assistance.

High Commissioner Noufo Dembele acknowledged the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland in reclaiming the territory. Contributions from Jean Robert Traore, the regional director in charge of the Economy of Bankui, were also highlighted to improve interventions for the province’s population.

The provincial director of Communication, Dembele Sanou, reported on the province’s participation in cultural biennial qualifiers, while participants engaged in discussions on activities benefiting vulnerable groups.
