ADDIS ABABA — President Sahle-Work Zewde emphasized that religious institutions need to engage in common national agendas by preventing issues that could erode the values of respect and solidarity.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, who spoke at the 16th regular session and recognition forum of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, religious leaders play a vital role in educating the faithful. “Actions that could erode the values of respect and solidarity between religions should be prevented,” she stated. The president highlighted that religious teachings and spiritual guidance are essential for sustaining peace and stability, as development and economic growth cannot be achieved in the absence of peace.
Peace State Minister Keyredin Tezera acknowledged the critical role religious institutions have played in maintaining peace, stability, and unity in the country for centuries. “The role of religious institutions is immense in developing the values of solidarity and unity among Ethiopians,” he added. Tezera pledged that the ministry would continue strengthening its cooperation with the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia to leverage the potential of religious institutions for nation-building and sustainable peace.
Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia Chairperson, His Grace Abune Gorgorios, stated that the council is a spiritual institution established to enhance the values of peace and solidarity in collaboration with stakeholders. He reiterated that the council would continue its efforts to strengthen the values of peace, respect, and solidarity among Ethiopians and religious institutions.
