Saaba: Religious communities in Saaba came together for a collective breaking of fasting and Lent, an event organized by the Special Delegation and the youth of the rural commune of Saaba. The gathering aimed to highlight social cohesion, understanding, and commitment to supporting the authorities in efforts for peace in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place on the evening of March 28, 2025, drawing over 500 participants from traditional, Muslim, Catholic, and Evangelical communities. The initiative, supported by various partners and goodwill, began with a Stations of the Cross organized by the Catholic community, followed by the Maghrib prayer led by the Muslim community.
Participants, regardless of their religious backgrounds, joined together at tables to share a meal, fostering a convivial atmosphere. Naaba Koanga, chief of Saaba, and other local leaders, including El Hadj Rasman© Nikiema of the Muslim community, emphasized the importance of unity and social cohesion for peace and security in the region.
Representatives from different religious groups, including Father Jean-Paul Bambara and Pastor Claude Kabor©, echoed the sentiment of unity and mutual respect. They highlighted the importance of coming together to build a stronger community and counter divisive forces.
The President of the Saaba Special Delegation, Adolphe Athanase Thiombiano, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success and encouraged continued efforts toward mutual acceptance and peace. Pascal Simpor©, President of the organizing committee, called for ongoing commitment to peace and development initiatives.
The event concluded with a film screening organized by the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, featuring the life of Captain Thomas Sankara to promote patriotism and national commitment among youth. Additionally, a fundraising campaign was launched to support internally displaced persons in Saaba.
