Sourou: The governor of the Dj´r´ region, Siaka Barro, installed the regional office of the International Committee of the Thomas Sankara Memorial (CIMTS) in Gaoua on Saturday. The newly formed office, consisting of 17 members and led by regional coordinator Hollo Doubloni, was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by administrative, military, religious, and customary authorities at the Centre A and B schools.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was graced by representatives from the CIMTS management, highlighting the administration's support for the Memorial's mission. Governor Barro emphasized the office's role in promoting the ideals of Thomas Sankara, focusing on civic education, community mobilization, and raising awareness of human values. He underscored the importance of instilling these ideals in the youth to further national sovereignty and dignity.
Representing the president of CIMTS, Souleymane Zerbo expressed gratitude for the support from regional authorities and the media. He noted the formation of local committees as part of a strategic decision to solidify the local engagement with the Memorial's construction project, which has already seen the completion of the mausoleum. Zerbo encouraged residents to draw on their strengths, aligning with the revolutionary leader's vision, and acknowledged the region's historical significance in Thomas Sankara's life.
Regional coordinator Hollo Doubloni outlined his commitment to the mission, describing it as a significant responsibility. The office's initiatives will focus on raising awareness, training, and mobilizing the community around revolutionary values. Plans include recruiting new members and establishing structures at various administrative levels, along with forming Sankara clubs in educational institutions.
The choice of Centre schools for the ceremony was symbolic, as Thomas Sankara attended these schools during his primary education. Attendees were given a tour, which included the classrooms and school register where Sankara was listed, further connecting the location to his legacy.
This new installation aims to bolster CIMTS's influence in the region, ensuring the enduring transmission of Thomas Sankara's ideological legacy to future generations.
