Red Stars Triumph in the 10th Peace and Fraternity Cup in Zondoma

GOURCY — The Red Stars clinched victory in the 10th edition of the Peace and Fraternity Cup, held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Place de la Nation in Gourcy, under the supervision of the High Commissioner of Zondoma Province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabé.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament featured ten teams, culminating in a finale between the Red Stars and Les Frères Unis. The match ended with the Red Stars securing the championship with a narrow 1-0 win. The victors were awarded a trophy, a monetary prize of one hundred thousand francs, a set of jerseys, a ball, and medals, with third place going to Caïmans FC.

The tournament’s promoter, Habila Sawadogo, emphasized that the event, themed ‘Sport and youth entrepreneurship,’ aims to use football as a unifying element while also fostering local development in Gourcy. In line with this vision, the tournament organizers initiated the renovation of the city’s only roundabout near the Gourcy market during the event.

The High Commissioner, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabé, praised the youth-driven initiative and expressed his continued support for such community activities. The organizers announced that next year’s tournament would coincide with the inauguration of the newly renovated roundabout, marking another milestone in the event’s history.
