Recovered Firearms at Petrusville Police Station; Three Arrested in Joint Operation

NORTHERN CAPE: In a successful intelligence-driven operation, a multi-disciplinary team recovered all firearms stolen from the Petrusville police station in the Northern Cape on 06 November 2023. The team, including members of the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, SAPS Crime Intelligence, and other units, conducted the operation.

According to South African Police Service, Acting on specific intelligence, the team apprehended two male suspects near the R70 road between Senekal and Rosendal, recovering a R5 rifle with 27 rounds. Further investigations led them to Marquard, where another arrest was made and two shotguns and a Z88 pistol were recovered.

The recovered firearms are part of an arsenal stolen from the Petrusville Police Station, discovered missing during a shift change. Internal investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading to this negligence.

The suspects are due to appear at different Magistrate courts in Senekal, Petrusville, and Marquand on Monday, 13 November 2023, facing charges of theft and possession of firearms.
