BEIJING—As the National Day holiday wrapped up in China, the country's railway sector witnessed an unprecedented surge in passenger traffic on Monday, with millions of travelers heading home. The China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. reported that its network handled 19.86 million passenger trips on the holiday's final day, marking a record in single-day operational capacity.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the railway company deployed a historic number of trains to accommodate the return of holiday-goers. "A total of 13,103 trains were in operation on Monday, including 1,705 additional trains to meet the rising demand," a spokesperson for the railway company stated. This extensive deployment is part of an ongoing effort to manage the holiday travel surge effectively.
During the 10-day travel period from September 29 to October 8, the railway network was projected to handle approximately 175 million passenger trips. In response to the heavy travel volumes, China implemented several measures, including the addition of extra trains on popular routes and enhancements in service quality, to ensure safe and orderly transportation for all passengers.
