Reconstruction of Crucial Road Begins in Southern Afghanistan

Kandahar: After nearly four decades, the reconstruction of a crucial road linking the southern Kandahar province to the neighboring Uruzgan has commenced, as reported by the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA).

According to Namibia Press Agency, the 24 km long road is expected to be completed within two years at a cost of 790 million afghani, which is approximately 11,300,000 U.S. dollars. The Ministry of Public Works is financing the project, as stated by the state-owned media outlet.

Local residents have expressed their support for the project, urging the administration to expedite the reconstruction process in the war-ravaged region. The reconstruction of the road is seen as a significant step toward rebuilding Afghanistan and stabilizing the nation after years of conflict.

The Afghan government has initiated various development projects aimed at rebuilding and improving infrastructure across the country, including road construction and the reconstruction of highways. The infrastructure in Afghanistan has suffered extensive damage over more than four decades due to war, foreign invasions, and civil strife, necessitating such reconstruction efforts.
