Luanda: The Commission for Reconciliation in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP) has announced that the remains of Generals Altino Sapalo “Bock”, Antero Vieira, and Ndala Constantino “Assobio da Bala” will be handed over on Friday. This information was disclosed by Marcy Lopes, the coordinator of the commission, during the first CIVICOP meeting of the year.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the forensic team concluded that the bones correspond to the bodies of three general officers, victims of political conflicts, found in the dense forests of Tchandji, in Bi© province. Marcy Lopes emphasized that the commission will continue its efforts to locate and identify as many burial sites and individuals as possible.
Regarding the monument in memory of the victims of the armed conflict, Lopes mentioned that construction efforts are underway, contingent on the availability of funds. Corn©lio Calei, a CIVICOP member, urged Angolan community members with relatives who perished in political conflicts between 1975 and 2002 to contact the organization for appropriate procedures.
Calei also stated that UNITA’s participation in CIVICOP “remains open” and called on its members and president to engage in the reconciliation process. He encouraged UNITA to actively partake in the project for the sake of national reconciliation.
CIVICOP was established in 2019 under the directive of President Joo Louren§o. The commission aims to develop a comprehensive plan to honor the victims of political conflicts in Angola between November 11, 1975, and April 4, 2002. The Reconciliation Plan includes issuing death certificates and constructing a unified memorial for all conflict victims in the country.
