RASD Reaffirms Support for Sahel Alliance Amid Concerns of Western Interference

OUAHIGOYA, YATENGA – At a press conference in Ouahigouya on Sunday, August 11, 2024, the African Network for Solidarity and Development (RASD) along with the provincial coordination of the Yatenga citizen watch, vocally reaffirmed their support for the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) authorities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, vice-president of the RASD, the event underscored the network’s unyielding support for the transitional authorities of the AES countries, cautioned against Western interference in the region, and called for greater local mobilization in support of the Sahel states. “The AES, a recent initiative aimed at bolstering Sahel cooperation against security and economic challenges, inspires hope for a brighter future. We stand firmly with the three heads of state in their quest for sovereignty and caution against any Western interference,” Sawadogo stated.

The press conference also addressed external political dynamics, specifically criticizing Ukraine for what the speakers deemed interference in the internal affairs of Mali and other AES member states. On security, updates were provided, noting improvements in the Northern region, with several villages resettled and populations resuming peaceful daily activities.

The speakers highlighted the strategic importance of the AES in addressing common challenges among member states and in fostering a safer, more prosperous future for the region. Sawadogo concluded by emphasizing the critical role of citizen monitoring in supporting transitional authorities and thwarting destabilization efforts.
