Rape Cases Reported in ||Kharas Region, Suspects to Appear in Court

ROSH PINAH – In a disturbing development, a 25-year-old man is set to appear in the Lüderitz Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the alleged rape of a three-year-old boy in Rosh Pinah. The incident reportedly took place on Saturday in the Tutungeni residential area of the mining town.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Chief Inspector Theodore Kotungondo, acting crime investigations coordinator for the ||Kharas Region, relayed the details to Nampa on Sunday. The alleged rape occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect is accused of sexually assaulting the minor while the child was under his care, after being left with an aunt at home.

The grandmother of the child, upon returning from work and preparing the child for a bath, noticed blood and lacerations to the child’s anus. The child was unable to communicate what had happened. Both the victim and the suspect were taken to the Lüderitz District Hospital for medical examination. The 25-year-old faces one count of rape.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man is expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, accused of raping a 34-year-old woman at Aroab village. This alleged crime occurred on Saturday around 4:00 a.m. in the New Extension residential area of the village. The suspect reportedly coerced the victim to his shack under forceful circumstances and sexually assaulted her. He faces one count under the Combating of Rape Act.

Police investigations are ongoing in both cases.
