Rain Hampers Evening Voting in Samora Machel Constituency

Windhoek: The Martti Ahtisaari polling station in Windhoek's Samora Machel Constituency recorded a low voter turnout Wednesday evening as rainfall kept many residents indoors. Presiding officer Joseph Mvula urged community members, particularly the youth, to make use of the remaining voting hours and cast their ballots. 'I encourage young people to come and cast their votes; there is still time,' Mvula said.

According to Namibia Press Agency, presiding officers reported that not many people turned up during the evening across several polling stations participating in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections, mainly due to the rain. Meanwhile, light evening showers at the Okapale Goreangab A polling station, also in the Samora Machel Constituency, briefly slowed voter activity. However, many residents kept arriving despite the weather.

Presiding Officer Ronny Ndongo reported that the station had processed nearly 700 voters by evening and projected a final count of around 1,000, provided the rain did not intensify significantly. 'I'm expecting that we will reach 1,000 voters, hopefully, if the rain doesn't disturb anyone. We have not recorded any challenges so far,' Ndongo said, adding that operations have been running smoothly.

Polling stations for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections nationwide opened at 07h00 and are scheduled to close at 21h00.
