Ouagadougou: Rahimo FC won the 38th edition of the Faso Cup on Sunday evening, marking its second trophy in history, by defeating Sporting FC des Cascades on penalties (3-1) at the Issoufou Joseph Conombo municipal stadium, after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, AIB noted.
According to Burkina Information Agency, following their Ligue 1 triumph, Rahimo FC completed a notable double by capturing the 38th Coupe du Faso. Sporting FC, based in Banfora, initially led the match, with Nouhoun Bamba scoring in the 16th minute. Rahimo FC responded in the second half, equalizing with a goal from Souleymane Kan© in the 53rd minute. The match proceeded to a penalty shootout after both teams remained tied at the end of regulation time. Rahimo FC, demonstrating superior skill, successfully scored three penalties compared to Sporting FC’s single successful attempt.
Rahimo FC’s victory earned them a prize of 20 million FCFA, along with the gold medal and the trophy. The runners-up, Sporting FC, received the silver medal and a sum of 15 million FCFA. The match was held under the presidency of Captain Ibrahim Traore, the Head of State.
As in 2019, Rahimo FC has achieved a remarkable double victory. The team is set to represent its colors in the African Champions League this year, while the second-placed team in the championship, either USFA or AS SONABEL, will compete in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup.
