Rabat Hosts Fact-Checking Training for African Journalists


RABAT — From April 22 to 26, 2024, twenty-five journalists from various member news agencies of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) gathered at the African Center of Training of Journalists (CAFJ) in Rabat, Morocco, for a training seminar on fact-checking.



According to Burkina Information Agency, president of FAAPA and general director of the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP), the seminar focuses on combating misinformation by enhancing the journalists’ skills in detecting fake news and employing advanced fact-checking tools and techniques. The training, themed ‘Fact-Checking: Detection of fake news in media content’, aims to foster resilience among journalists and promote experience sharing within the field. Mr. Arif emphasized the critical role of credible fact-checking in adapting to the rapid evolution of media landscapes influenced heavily by social media. The seminar was highlighted by expert-led sessions on various aspects of fact-checking, from basic introductions to advanced methodologies. It seeks to create an active network of fact-checkers within FAAPA to strengthen coordination and improve the quality of information verification across the member agencies.
