RA Temporarily Closes Oranjemund-Rosh Pinah Road Due to Rising Orange River Levels

Windhoek: The Roads Authority (RA) has announced the temporary closure of the road connecting Oranjemund and Rosh Pinah as a precautionary measure in response to the escalating water levels in the Orange River. The closure commenced at 18h00 on Wednesday and will remain in effect until further notice.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the RA disclosed in a media statement that only emergency services vehicles will be permitted to traverse the closed road, and even then, under strict supervision to ensure safety. The organization has recommended that motorists seeking alternative routes consider using the Namdeb road between Aus and Lderitz, which will be operational daily from 07h00 to 15h00. However, travelers are advised that this route is governed by Namdeb's regulations, and the responsibility of using it lies with the motorists themselves. This route is open to light delivery vehicles and trucks, while sedans and lighter vehicles are not permitted.

Another suggested detour involves traveling from Keetmanshoop through Grnau and Noordoewer, crossing into South Africa towards Steinkopf, and then proceeding to Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay. From there, travelers can re-enter Namibia via the Oppenheimer Bridge to reach Oranjemund.

The RA emphasized its commitment to public safety and assured that further updates will be disseminated through all relevant media channels and RA social media platforms as the situation progresses.
