Quarterly Report on Vaccination Access Presented by Integrated Youth Development Association in Boussé

BOUSSÉ—The Integrated Youth Development Association of Burkina Faso (ADIJ-BF) presented its quarterly community monitoring report on vaccination access on Monday, August 19, 2024, in Boussé. The report was delivered under the chairmanship of Harouna Kombasséré, the secretary general of Kourweogo province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, president of ADIJ-BF, the association conducted two major activities related to disease prevention in the province during the quarter. These activities include the acceleration of the zero-dose vaccination program and the integration of COVID-19 vaccination into primary health care across several regions of Burkina Faso, including the Central Plateau, Center-West, Hauts-Bassins, and Center-South.

Ouédraogo emphasized that the quarterly exchange provides an opportunity for health sector stakeholders in Kourweogo to assess the progress made by ADIJ-BF and its partners in implementing these projects. The discussion also aimed to address challenges identified by district-level facilitators in ensuring vaccination access.

During the quarter, ADIJ-BF managed to catch up on vaccinations for 130 insufficiently vaccinated children out of a planned 550. Additionally, out of 80 children who had received zero doses, seven were located and had their vaccination records updated. In the same period, 83 women received their overdue anti-tetanus vaccinations, and 53 nine-year-old girls were vaccinated against HPV.

The report highlighted several challenges, including insufficient personnel and equipment, mobility issues among parents, and concerns about post-vaccination events. The 15 health centers visited during the quarter reported various needs, such as ash pits, incinerators, vaccination halls, vaccine carriers, and transportation resources.

In response to these findings, participants recommended intensifying public awareness campaigns and advocating for better infrastructure and equipment with community leaders and technical and financial partners (TFPs). Secretary General Kombasséré commended the health system actors in the Boussé district for their ongoing efforts and expressed gratitude to RAME, ADIJ-BF, and UNICEF for their continuous support in improving access to quality health services in Burkina Faso.
