Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Kim Jong-un on his re-election as Chairman of State of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the highest state office in North Korea, during the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly. Putin extended his congratulations to Kim Jong-un, reaffirming the strong diplomatic ties between Russia and North Korea.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Putin emphasized that the decision of the Supreme People's Assembly reflects the unanimous support of North Korean society for Kim Jong-un's leadership. The Russian President noted that Kim's approach is aimed at effectively addressing the country's socio-economic challenges while safeguarding its sovereignty and interests on the international stage.

Putin expressed his wishes for Kim Jong-un's continued success in his public duties, along with good health and well-being. Earlier, in February, Kim was also re-elected as the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, further consolidating his leadership in the nation.

Kim Jong-un has been leading North Korea since the passing of his father, Kim Jong-il, in 2011. Since 2016, he has been the chair of the State Council, the supreme authority responsible for state policy matters. His official title is President of State Affairs of North Korea, a status that was formally recognized following a constitutional amendment in 2019, which also confirmed his role as the supreme commander of the Korean People's Army.
