Luanda: The Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning, and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, announced on Monday the implementation of a major drainage project in the municipality of Cazombo, Angolan eastern province of Moxico Leste to prevent severe flooding. Speaking to the press during an inspection visit by the Minister of State and Head of the President's Military House, Joo dos Santos Liberdade, who was reviewing the construction of the National Road 190 (Cazombo-Luau section), he highlighted that the project is part of the urban development plan for the Eastern Moxico province. According to Angola Press News Agency, the project will be funded under the 2027 General State Budget (OGE) and includes the construction of housing and the stabilization of ravines along National Road 190. The official expressed satisfaction with the physical progress of the Cazombo-Luau section construction, spanning 183 kilometers, and assured that if the current pace is maintained, the work will be completed within the established deadlines. Carlos dos Santos noted that the last visit to the area involved a journey taking nearly ten hours, whereas the current progress allowed covering over 200 kilometers in less than three hours, demonstrating adherence to the project schedule. He confirmed that there are currently no technical or financial obstacles preventing the project from being fully completed by 2027, as planned. He further mentioned that technical guidelines were issued during the visit to ensure the work meets the desired quality standards. The project, budgeted at over 200 million dollars, has reached 52 percent physical completion, with 41 of the planned 183 kilometers already paved. Earthworks are currently underway on an 85-kilometer stretch of the section in question; these will be paved by December, bringing the total to approximately 120 kilometers by the end of the year.
