Kompienga: The Secretary General of the province of Kompienga, Issa Daboné, chaired a crucial Provincial Consultation Framework meeting for the year 2024, where participants called for an emergency supply convoy to address the pressing humanitarian needs in the locality. The meeting, held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, brought together statutory members to discuss the ongoing challenges posed by terrorism, which has left the region in a state of blockade for several years.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the theme of the meeting was focused on “The humanitarian food, health, and nutritional situations in the province of Kompienga.” Issa Daboné emphasized that the theme was chosen to reflect the severe difficulties the province has faced due to terrorism, which has exacerbated poverty and displaced numerous residents. The main objective of the framework was to engage with statutory members in finding solutions to alleviate the distress of the affected populations.

Various technical services from th
e Kompienga province highlighted the dire humanitarian situation. Dr. Ibrahim Pierre Ahmed Balima, the chief medical officer of the Pama health district, reported that since 2018, security issues and blockades have forced the closure of health facilities. This has resulted in increased precariousness and malnutrition. Dr. Balima suggested that the State should support the province through helicopter delivery of essential supplies, including pharmaceutical products, health personnel, food, and laboratory reagents.

El hadji Ali Diallo, a member of the Muslim community, expressed that the session provided valuable insights into the current ground realities. He advocated for a mixed convoy of supplies by land as an urgent necessity to support the distressed populations. Furthermore, an advocacy group submitted a list of grievances to the administrative authority, detailing the needs for a dignified life in the province.

The session received financial backing from RESONUT, a non-profit, apolitical, and secular a
ssociation established in 2014, dedicated to promoting consultation and coordination among civil society to influence decision-makers for improving the nutritional status of Burkina Faso’s populations.
