Matala: Three young people, aged between 13 and 18, were injured following the explosion of three Z-U type projectiles in the Canogundo neighbourhood, near the ‘Alemanha’ market, in the municipality of Matala, province of Hula. The incident took place around 3 pm while the minors were collecting grass and sugarcane husks in the area and set fire to accumulated rubbish.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the acting spokesperson for the provincial department of the National Demining Centre (CND) of Hula, Fernando Catiavala, provided the information and highlighted the prompt rescue of the minors by Matala’s Civil Protection Service and Firefighters. Among the victims, the 13-year-old sustained injuries to her left lower limb, the 16-year-old suffered bruises on her metacarpal bone, and the 18-year-old suffered minor injuries to her knee.

This incident marks the second case involving mines this year in the province of Hula. The first incident occurred in January in the municipality of Quipungo, where a resident was injured after a grenade in his possession was handled by his children, resulting in injuries to two teenagers.
