Koudougou: Norbert Zongo University has a new president. Professor Windkouni Haoua Eug©nie Maiga was officially installed in her new role on Wednesday during a solemn ceremony, marking a historic milestone for the institution.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Professor Windkouni Haoua Eug©nie Maiga was appointed by the Council of Ministers on March 26, becoming the first woman to head this university since its creation. A lecturer and researcher, Professor Maiga previously held the position of Director General of the University Guidance and Scholarship Board at the university. Her appointment was welcomed by the authorities, including the Secretary General of the Minister of Higher Education, who emphasized the importance of this appointment.
In her speech, the new president expressed her gratitude to the country's highest authorities for the trust placed in her. She also called for close collaboration among all university stakeholders to address the current challenges, exacerbated by the context of insecurity.
Professor Issa Abdou Moumoula, outgoing president, handed over the reins to his colleague, wishing her every success in her mission. He advised her to listen to the concerns of students and staff, and to learn from the challenges encountered to build a promising future for the university. Professor Moumoula also gave a satisfactory assessment of his term, highlighting the achievements (infrastructure and capacity) and innovations that have improved the institution's efficiency.
The installation ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the interim governor of the Centre-West region, the interim president of the Centre-West regional special delegation, as well as traditional, religious, military, and paramilitary authorities from the region.
Professor Alkassoum Maiga, former Minister of Higher Education, and other presidents of public and private universities in Burkina Faso also graced the event with their presence. This appointment marks a new chapter for Norbert Zongo University, which is committed to pursuing its mission of academic excellence and contributing to the development of Burkina Faso.
