Kakamega: Governor’s spouse, Prof. Janet Kassilly Barasa, has been crowned as the Champion of the ‘Okoa Maisha ya Mama Na Mtoto Initiative (OMMI). The crowning was conducted by Priscilla Oparanya, the wife of Former Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, during a meeting held at the Office of Prof. Janet Kassilly Barasa.

According to Kenya News Agency, in her address, Prof. Barasa expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to build on the legacy established by her predecessor. ‘This is not just a crowning; it is a call to action. Together, we will strengthen the OMMI initiative and ensure that no mother or child is left behind,’ she said.

They vowed to work together in mobilising resources, increasing awareness, and championing policy reforms that prioritize maternal and child health. They emphasised the need for community participation and encouraged women and families to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable medical coverage.

Additionally, the leaders urged expectant mothers to enrol in the ongoing County Linda Mama programme, which is meant to support safer pregnancies and childbirth through free maternal healthcare services.
