Piedade pena: The chairman of the Angolan Agricultural and Mining Cooperative (CWAM-Angola), advocated for tax relief for agricultural producers as a “fair and timely” measure during the 50th anniversary celebrations of National Independence.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Pena stated that many farmers struggle to meet their tax obligations and repay loans due to losses caused by poor road conditions and the lack of transportation resources. Pena said that CWAM-Angola has strengthened its technical support and organization of cooperatives through training, monitoring, and surveys of cultivated areas. However, the results are limited by the lack of basic infrastructure.
Pena explained that transporting products remains one of the main challenges, especially in inland municipalities, where poor roads and heavy rains make transporting harvests difficult. He said that reducing the tax burden would enable cooperatives and small producers to invest in seeds, supplies, and transportation, which would incr
ease production and family income in rural communities.
Pena also emphasized the importance of establishing purchasing points near cultivation areas to minimize losses and motivate farmers to maintain their production pace. He praised the government’s efforts to support the agricultural sector, yet he called for greater sensitivity to the challenges rural areas face and advocated for incentive policies and tax simplification to stimulate national production.
Piedade Pena called for the implementation of urgent measures to offload agricultural surpluses and create conditions that facilitate loan repayment, though she did not provide details. The cooperative financed more than 140 producers, resulting in the production of 1,854 tons of various products on 969 hectares during the 2024/2025 agricultural season. A total of 222 producers received subsidies.
