Principal Secretary Visits PAVI Cooperative, Supports Cotton Ginnery Construction

MSAMBWENI – On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Patrick Kilemi, the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, visited the PAVI Cooperative Farmers Society in the Kinondo area of Msambweni Sub-county. During his visit, Kilemi engaged with Elud Kiptoo, the Business Engineering Adviser for the cooperative, who briefed him on the operations of a maize processing plant currently in use by the society.

According to Kenya News Agency, this visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the agricultural sector’s value addition processes. Notably, the department is financing the construction of a cotton ginnery at the PAVI Farmers Cooperative Society. This initiative is aimed at bolstering value addition for cotton farmers, which in turn is expected to significantly improve the livelihoods of the cooperative’s members.

The move to support the construction of the ginnery reflects the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the agricultural sector through cooperative societies, thereby increasing productivity and promoting sustainable economic growth within the community.
