Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo received a delegation from the Order of Pharmacists of Burkina Faso in audience on May 13, 2025. This meeting was an opportunity for Professor Halidou Tinto to present to the Head of Government the distinction he received from his peers at the International Pharmaceutical Forum recently held in Tunis, Tunisia.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the African Pharmacy Excellence Award for Research and Innovation, established by the Inter-Order of Pharmacists of Africa (IOPA), aims to recognize and promote the exceptional contributions of a pharmacist in the fields of research and innovation. For the first edition, Burkina Faso, through the work of Professor Halidou Tinto, was honored.
Professor Tinto remarked, “This prize certainly rewards my career, but above all it represents recognition of the resilience of our country.” He emphasized that despite the difficult security context facing Burkina Faso, they continue to produce science, generate
knowledge, and influence the history of the fight against diseases like malaria, particularly through their research on vaccines.
The Prime Minister welcomed this distinction, which honors not only Professor Tinto but also the entire Burkinabe scientific community. He expressed his admiration for the continued efforts of researchers who, despite current challenges, actively contribute to improving public health in Burkina Faso and around the world.
Professor Halidou Tinto is recognized for his pioneering work in clinical research on malaria. He is notably one of the main contributors to the clinical trials that led to the development of promising malaria vaccines, now being deployed in several African countries. This international recognition thus strengthens Burkina Faso’s position as a key player in pharmaceutical and biomedical research on the African continent.
