Bama: Returning from his visit to the Samandeni Agropole, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo made an unscheduled stop in the Bama rice-growing plain. This visit allowed him to encourage the farmers and agricultural technicians working at this production site.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister was welcomed by provincial and regional officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as members of producer cooperatives. The Prime Minister and his delegation toured part of the 1,260 hectares of developed land in the plain. Discussions during the visit focused on the progress of the dryland farming campaign, water management, production organization, and expected yields.
The Regional Director of the Ministry in charge of Agriculture, Eric Pascal Adanabou, stated that the plain is exploited by more than 150 producers organized into several cooperatives with processing units. He explained that they have been instructed to produce during all seasons. This year marks their third harvest, with rice being grown in the first and third harvests and wheat in the second. For the current dry season, 230 hectares are being cultivated for rice, achieving a yield of 6 tons per hectare.
The Prime Minister commended the farmers in Bama for their resilience, noting that their efforts contribute to supplying the national rice market. He also congratulated the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture for the results achieved on the ground.
Before departing, the Prime Minister urged advisors to strengthen ties with producers to ensure the effective implementation of the Agricultural Offensive. He emphasized that agriculture remains crucial in the struggle for the country's independence.
This stop signifies the authorities' commitment to being closely involved with the agricultural sector, aiming to accelerate Burkina Faso's progress towards food self-sufficiency.
