Prime Minister Ouedraogo Inaugurates New Emergency Medical Service Branch in Guiriko

Guiriko: The Prime Minister officially launches the regional branch of the SAMU (Emergency Medical Service). Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo officially launched the regional branch of the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) in Bobo-Dioulasso on Saturday. This ceremony marks a decisive step in strengthening Burkina Faso’s healthcare system, particularly in the rapid and effective management of medical emergencies in the Guiriko region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony, presided over by the Prime Minister, was held in the presence of the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, and regional authorities from Guiriko. This launch reflects the government’s commitment to guaranteeing all Burkinabe citizens equitable, rapid, and free access to emergency care, in accordance with the directives of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore.

The message delivered on behalf of the Prime Minister highlighted that this initia
tive aligns with the Head of State’s vision to prioritize quality and local health services at the national level. Following the opening of the first branch in Ouagadougou last April, the establishment of the one in Bobo-Dioulasso expands the national emergency medical intervention system, addressing the crucial need for rapid health coverage and pre-hospital care in the region.

Accessible via the short and free number 15, the SAMU operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, with qualified medical teams ready to intervene at any time. The care provided is entirely free, allowing every citizen to benefit from medical assistance regardless of their financial means.

Minister Kargougou emphasized that “today’s ceremony further demonstrates the commitment of His Excellency the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, to provide the best care to the valiant people of our country.” He encouraged organizers of public events and administrative officials to collaborate closely with SAMU to ensure the health and safe
ty of participants.

Addressing the SAMU professionals, the minister urged them to embody the values of their strategic plan: proximity, promptness, efficiency, humanity, fairness, pooling, anticipation, and coordination. The Director General of SAMU, Professor Armel Flavien Kabore, also called on the population to make responsible use of the number 15 and to support the intervention teams in carrying out their vital mission in service to the nation.
