Ndiyona: Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare recently visited Ndiyona Combined School to assess the aftermath of a fire that destroyed the learners' hostel on November 1, 2025. Ngurare's visit underscores the government's commitment to addressing the emergency needs of affected students.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of providing immediate support to the learners, stating that their well-being is a priority. Ngurare highlighted the necessity to restore normalcy for the students, noting that their future is crucial for the community and the nation.
Ngurare urged officials from the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) to work with the regional Directorate of Education to explore ways to rehabilitate the school. He noted that the Cabinet has designated the NTA to manage minor maintenance for schools and clinics nationwide.
Elleuterius Kayinga, the principal of Ndiyona Combined School, reported that 110 learners were affected by the fire. In response, the Ministry of Education and the Kavango East Regional Council have supplied essential items, including mattresses, duvets, plates, cups, tents, and fire extinguishers. Further supplies are expected soon.
The Prime Minister was informed that approximately N.dollars 500,000 was spent on procuring necessary items. Additionally, Christine Shilima, the Director of Education for the region, confirmed that a supplier has been appointed to provide new beds for the students.
