Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Dr. Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambèla called on parents to actively contribute to their children’s education during a speech in Ouagadougou on Thursday, marking the start of the new school year.
According to Burkina Information Agency, education is essential for preserving national heritage and preparing children to serve the country in the future. Speaking on the sidelines of the flag-raising ceremony, he reminded parents that while schools provide formal education, they must also play a role in their children’s upbringing.
Kyélem noted that in traditional families, education was a collective responsibility that prepared children to be useful to themselves, their families, and society. He urged parents not to rely solely on teachers for their children’s development but to take an active interest in their education.
“A well-educated child respects his parents, his teachers, and his superiors,” Kyélem said, stressing that parental involvement is crucial in shaping the future of Burkina Faso. He also criticized parents who leave their children entirely in the care of teachers without participating in their upbringing.
Kyélem concluded by encouraging parents to guide their children, ensuring they grow up with a clear sense of direction and purpose.
