Addis Ababa: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially launched the construction of model rural villages in the Central Ethiopia Region, marking a significant step in the rural corridors initiative aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities. The announcement was made as part of the rural corridor development in Wera Dijo Woreda, Sinbita Kebele, Halaba Zone.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted that these model villages are designed to be cost-effective and will utilize locally available resources. This approach is intended to empower farmers to lead healthier and more dignified lives. The initiative includes the irrigation of over 2,000 hectares of land in the surrounding area, which is expected to boost agricultural productivity.
Prime Minister Abiy also noted the ongoing efforts to multiply high-quality maize seeds and cultivate vegetables and fruits. These activities are part of a broader strategy to transform a region historically affected by floods and droughts
into a sustainable development model. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to addressing food security and improving living conditions in rural areas.
