Prime Minister Abiy Launches Green Legacy Initiative in Hayk, Aiming to Boost Economy and Environment


Hayk City, South Wolo Zone – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched this year’s Green Legacy planting cycle in Hayk City, emphasizing the initiative’s role in both environmental and economic revitalization.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, this year’s launch in the Amhara Region marks a significant step toward Ethiopia’s ambitious goal of planting 40 billion seedlings out of a target of 50 billion. “By planting, we are not only greening the country but also energizing all sectors of the economy,” Prime Minister Abiy stated. He previously noted during the pre-launch program at the Office of the Prime Minister that the country needs to plant 7.5 billion seedlings in this current cycle.



It was also highlighted that Ethiopia’s forest coverage has impressively grown to 23.6 percent in 2023, up from 17.2 percent in 2019, showcasing significant progress in the nation’s environmental efforts.
