ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has issued a call to Ethiopians to participate in a monumental tree planting event aimed at setting a new record by planting 600 million tree seedlings in a single day.
According to the Ethiopian News Agency, the event scheduled for 23rd August 2024, is part of a broader national environmental campaign. “Let’s make our legacy by planting 600 million saplings overnight,” the Prime Minister stated, emphasizing the collective effort needed to achieve this goal. He encouraged all citizens, including adults and teenagers, to plant 20 and 10 trees respectively, highlighting the action as a testament to their love for the country.
This initiative is a continuation of Ethiopia’s extensive afforestation efforts, which are part of a larger strategy to plant 50 billion trees. This year alone, the country aims to plant 7.5 billion trees.
