WOLKITE — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has pledged to end Ethiopia’s economic dependency and position the country as a model of prosperity and unity in Africa. Speaking at a forum in Wolkite town, Gurage Zone, the Prime Minister shared his vision for an autonomous and thriving Ethiopia.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the forum was a gathering to bolster the ongoing reformist efforts and showcased the unity and solidarity of the Gurage zone people, which he praised as a standard for the rest of the country. He emphasized the importance of peace and harmony in achieving national prosperity and stressed the need for all Ethiopians to contribute towards this goal.
Abiy also pointed out that Ethiopia’s rich diversity in ethnic identities, cultures, languages, and geographical features should not be seen as divisions but strengths that contribute to building a robust nation-state. He recalled Ethiopia’s historical resilience against external aggressions, noting that despite its victories in maintaining sovereignty, the country still faces significant economic challenges.
The Prime Minister highlighted the success of the Gurage people in business and trade as a prime example of what could be achieved across Ethiopia. He urged the nation to draw inspiration from their entrepreneurial spirit to overcome economic dependence.
Moreover, Abiy called on all Ethiopians to actively engage in the nation’s economic development initiatives aimed at making Ethiopia a beacon of African prosperity. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of national unity and defeating divisive forces that threaten the country’s progress.
