President Xi Jinping Visits Tianshui Apple Orchards, Emphasizes Rural Revitalization

TIANSHUI—During his first inspection tour outside Beijing since the 20th CPC Central Committee’s July session, President Xi Jinping visited Tianshui City in Gansu Province to witness the success of local apple cultivation, a key component of China’s rural revitalization strategy.

According to Namibia Press Agency, President Xi, also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, toured an apple production base where he met with workers like Dong Guihong. Amid the orchards laden with Huaniu apples, Xi engaged with the farmers and agricultural technicians, inquiring about the cultivation practices, market sales, and overall well-being of the local community.

Dong detailed her daily tasks and earnings in the orchard, highlighting a significant income that supports her livelihood. “With a daily pay of 110 yuan (about 15.49 U.S. dollars), I can earn up to more than 30,000 yuan a year,” she explained. Local officials briefed Xi on the advanced management techniques that have enhanced both the quality and yield of the apples, leading to annual production figures of 220,000 tonnes valued at about 600 million yuan.

President Xi commended the efforts in Tianshui, noting the historical significance and the role of apple cultivation in the economic development of the area. He encouraged the locals to strive for further success, thus improving their living standards through continued growth in the apple industry.

This visit underscores the broader theme of rural revitalization that Xi has championed throughout his leadership, repeatedly stressing the importance of developing local industries tailored to the unique conditions of each region. Such initiatives have not only transformed local economies but have also set a precedent for agricultural modernization across the country.
