Benguela: President Joo Louren§o will travel to Benguela on Wednesday to assess the damage caused by recent flooding in the province.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan Head of State will work all day in Benguela city, with detailed visits to the residential areas most affected by the waters and direct contact with the displaced populations and those temporarily housed in transitional locations.
Joo Louren§o will also meet with the National Civil Protection Commission, for a detailed understanding of the situation and assessment of the volume of support and assistance being provided to the victims, the statement said.
The rupture of the protection dike on the left bank of the Cavaco River on Sunday caused floods in several neighborhoods of the city of Benguela, following the intense rains that have hit the region in recent days. According to the authorities' tally, so far there are eight deaths and thousands of displaced people.
The floods mainly affected the areas of Calomanga, Tchipiandalo, Massangarala, Cotel and Santa Teresa, as well as nearby agricultural areas and farms, with reports of submerged streets and homes partially covered by water.
