President Ramaphosa to deliver keynote address at Intergovernmental National Litigation Forum

President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday, 25 February 2022, deliver the keynote address at the Intergovernmental National Litigation Forum in Pretoria.

Initiated by the Presidency in 2019, the Intergovernmental National Litigation Forum is a platform for fostering close working relations so that legal matters addressed by the state and litigation involving the state are managed effectively.

This year’s event takes place on Friday and Saturday, 25 and 26 February 2022.

The forum is organised by the Office of the Solicitor-General under the theme: A coordinated approach to the management of State litigation, with emphasis on reduction of State contingent liability.

The President will deliver his address to Members of the National Executive, Directors-General and Legal Services Managers in organs of state.

The State Attorney Amendment Act, 2014 (Act No. 13 of 2014) which makes provision for the appointment the Office of the Solicitor-General, came into effect on the 7 February 2020.

The Office of the Solicitor-General is responsible for the coordination and management of litigation where the State is involved.

It is also responsible for the creation and implementation of policies intended for briefing of advocates, the outsourcing of legal work, including instruction of correspondent attorneys, and defending the State in litigation matters.

The President looks forward to legal matters of the state being streamlined through the forum.
