Burkina: The President of Faso invites livestock sellers to strengthen their system to counter the financing of terrorism: The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, called on Friday, on behalf of the Head of State, the actors of the Pouytenga and Fada N'Gourma livestock market, to put in place an effective system to detect stolen animals, with the aim of drying up the sources of financing of terrorism. "The main source of financing for terrorism remains the theft and sale of animals stolen by terrorists," said Security Minister Mahamadou Sana. According to Burkina Information Agency, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has urged livestock market stakeholders to collaborate with the defense forces to enhance control mechanisms. This initiative aims to prevent markets from becoming conduits for the sale of livestock stolen by terrorists, as emphasized by Minister Sana. Minister Sana expressed that it is intolerable for Burkinabe citizens to be killed for their livestock, which are then sold to fell ow countrymen. To counter this, he stressed the need for intensified efforts against terrorist groups and called on livestock market participants to establish systems to detect and halt the trade of stolen animals. Furthermore, Minister Sana appealed to the general population to avoid any involvement in concealing or facilitating terrorist-owned assets. Market actors have welcomed this initiative, recognizing it as a means to formalize practices they have already begun to ensure smooth animal trade transactions. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the communities of Pouytenga and Fada N'Gourma to reaffirm their dedication to supporting peace and security initiatives in Burkina Faso, while also offering recommendations for the effective functioning of the livestock sector.
