President Mbumba Honored with Namibia’s Top Presidential Award

WINDHOEK — President Nangolo Mbumba was honored with The Most Ancient Order of Welwitschia Mirabilis, Namibia’s highest presidential distinction, during a ceremony at the State House this Saturday. Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba presented President Mbumba with the presidential sash, symbolizing his leadership as the Head of State.

According to Namibia Press Agency, President Mbumba, who assumed office following the death of former President Hage Geingob on February 4, 2024, dedicated the accolade to various individuals who influenced his life and career. He expressed deep gratitude to his maternal grandparents for laying the groundwork for his successes, reflecting on the nurturing, discipline, and guidance they provided. “Their nurturing, discipline, and guidance has allowed me to achieve success beyond my greatest expectations,” he remarked.

In his speech, Mbumba extended his thanks to his family, including his wife, First Lady Sustjie Mbumba, his children, grandchildren, and the extended Mbumba and Nangolo clans for their support. He credited them for their role in reaching this significant day in his career. Additionally, the president paid homage to his mentors, including former President Pohamba, Founding President Sam Nujoma, and his predecessor, President Geingob, as well as his comrades in the Swapo Party.

He highlighted their patriotism and commitment, which have bolstered his presidency. “Words cannot express fully the depth of my gratitude and emotions, however, I thank you all, wholeheartedly, for bestowing upon me this great honour of The Most Ancient Order of Welwitschia Mirabilis,” he concluded.
