President Mbumba Hails Late Katrina Hanse-Himarwa as a ‘Fearless Trailblazer’

MARIENTAL — President Nangolo Mbumba paid tribute to the late Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, describing her as a fearless trailblazer whose energetic governance significantly impacted Namibia. The tribute was delivered by Deputy Prime Minister John Mutorwa at a memorial service on Friday.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Hanse-Himarwa’s death represents a significant loss for both the Swapo Party and the Namibian government. He emphasized her role in advancing the country’s struggle for economic emancipation and highlighted her notable achievements, including leading a delegation to Germany for the repatriation of cultural artifacts and human remains in 2019. Hanse-Himarwa, who passed away on July 14, 2024, after a battle with cancer, also implemented crucial educational reforms, notably the junior primary education diploma that improved the qualifications of approximately 4,000 teachers.



Her career also included serving as the governor of the Hardap Region and as the minister of education, arts, and culture. Her efforts in these roles left a lasting impact on the nation, underscoring her commitment to Namibia’s development and cultural heritage.
