Cairo: Angolan head of state, Joo Lourenço, expressed his enchantment following a ninety-minute visit to the Great Egyptian Museum of Giza (GME) in Cairo on Thursday morning. “We just saw a part of the great Egyptian civilization, we were quite delighted. This is the history of a country, a continent, but the world,” said President Lourenço.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the head of state was accompanied by the first lady, Ana Dias Lourenço. Starting in July, two additional areas of the museum will be inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, focusing on traditional Egyptian vessels and the rich history of Egypt, which includes phases marked by invasions from the Greeks and Romans. President Lourenço noted the importance of history, stating, “It is often said that a people without history is a people, at the outset, defeated.”
The upcoming areas of the museum will showcase traditional vessels from the pharaonic period and thousands of gold artifacts used by the kings of various dynasties. Pres
ident Lourenço expressed his eagerness to revisit these new exhibits in the future.
During his visit, President Lourenço explored several sections of the museum, which attracts thousands of tourists globally every day. The museum’s twelve rooms present a comprehensive view of ancient Egyptian history and chronology, covering periods from pre-pharaoh civilization and first dynasties to the Middle Empire, the New Empire, and the Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt.
Located in Giza, the museum offers a privileged view of nearby pyramids. President Lourenço’s visit marks the conclusion of his official trip to Egypt, which commenced on Tuesday.
