Seville: The Angolan and African Union (AU) President, Joo Lourenço, spoke on Monday in Seville, Spain, at the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4). The event aims to discuss the reform of the global financial model.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Lourenço will be the second speaker at the general debate during the plenary session of the conference. In his dual capacity as Angolan Head of State and acting Chair of the AU, he will present the main concerns of the African continent regarding financing, highlighting the need for investment in infrastructure and the reduction of inequalities compared to developed countries.

The conference, promoted by the United Nations (UN), brings together more than 60 world leaders and around 4,000 representatives of civil society. The main objective is to find viable solutions to the challenges of global development, in a context characterized by deep inequalities between the more developed global North and the global South, which sti
ll faces major obstacles to sustainable progress.

Under the motto of equity and economic justice, the meeting aims to explore new approaches to financing development, strengthen domestic resource mobilization, and improve international cooperation mechanisms. The agenda also includes key issues such as debt sustainability and the creation of a fairer economic environment for developing countries.

The high-level meeting is attended by 39 Heads of State, including 11 from African countries, which highlights the relevance of the continent in discussions around the new paradigm of global financing. On the eve of the official opening of the conference, President Joo Lourenço and the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, attended an official dinner hosted by King Felipe VI and Queen Leticia, in honor of the world leaders present in Seville for the event.
