Luanda: President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, met with Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Toshimitsu Motegi, on Friday to discuss the state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation between Angola and Japan. The discussions focused on enhancing relationships in political-diplomatic, economic, and commercial sectors.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Japanese foreign minister is engaged in a 48-hour working visit to Angola, which commenced on Thursday. Diplomatic relations between Angola and Japan were established on September 9, 1976, shortly after Angola's independence. The relationship has gradually developed, marked by significant milestones such as the opening of the Angolan Embassy in Japan in 2000, the establishment of a Japanese Embassy in Angola in 2005, and the creation of an honorary consulate in Nagoya in 2021.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency plays a crucial role in this partnership, implementing technical assistance programs across various sectors. These sectors include health, vocational training, agriculture, telecommunications, and energy. Toshimitsu Motegi's visit also includes meetings with Angola's Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio, to focus on further cooperation in mutual areas of interest.
Additionally, Motegi's itinerary features a visit to the Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto Memorial, where he will lay a wreath in honor of Angola's Founding Father. On the concluding day of his visit, the Japanese minister will tour the Josina Machel Hospital and meet with the Minister of Health, Slvia Lutucuta, to discuss collaboration in the health sector.
