Belgrade: Angolan Head of State Joo Lourenço begins an official visit to Serbia on Monday at the invitation of his counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, the Press Service of the Presidency of the Republic announced on Sunday. The visit, scheduled from the 8th to the 10th of this month, aims to enhance bilateral cooperation between Angola and Serbia. According to Angola Press News Agency, the visit includes a comprehensive work program that involves meetings between the two Heads of State and discussions between delegations from both governments. These discussions are expected to culminate in the signing of cooperation agreements across various fields, witnessed by the Presidents of Angola and Serbia. The agenda also features an economic and business forum designed to deepen cooperation relations and explore new investment and exchange opportunities for businesspeople from both countries. During his stay in Belgrade, President Lourenço will visit the Serbian Parliament and several specialized institutes, including a military institution. This visit occurs within the context of historical relations between Angola and Serbia, which date back to the era of the former Yugoslavia. During that period, Belgrade maintained significant cooperation ties with multiple African countries, including Angola. The cooperation framework is rooted in a General Agreement covering diverse fields such as economics, security, diplomacy, and social aspects of life. Angola and Serbia continue to expand their cooperation in various areas, focusing on diplomacy, security, and economics. A strategic highlight has been the joint development in the Health sector, particularly in training Angolan professionals in ophthalmology. The two nations are also strengthening their economic, diplomatic, academic, and sporting ties. Since establishing political-diplomatic and cooperative, technical-scientific, and cultural relations on April 25, 1977, Angola and Serbia have maintained cordial relations. These have been reinforced with over ten agreements sign ed and numerous visits by Angolan delegations to Belgrade between 2020 and 2023.
