Rio de janeiro: President Joo Lourenço of Angola has arrived in Rio de Janeiro to attend the BRICS Summit, responding to an invitation from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who holds the rotating presidency of BRICS this year. The summit is a significant gathering, bringing together leaders from 27 countries alongside representatives from seven international financial bodies and institutions.
According to Angola Press News Agency, notable world leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa are already present at the event. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived on Saturday, joining representatives from countries including Mexico, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, and Nigeria, who are also in Brazil for the summit.
Delegations from the United Arab Emirates and Turkey are expected to arrive throughout the day, as are high-profile figures such as United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and World Health Organization D
irector-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Despite ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iran will be represented by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, while Egypt will have Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly in attendance.
This year’s summit will see the absence of key leaders like China’s President Xi Jinping and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, both of whom will participate via videoconference.
