Luanda: The Angolan Head of State, Joo Louren§o, is set to open the 2025-2026 Parliamentary Year on Wednesday through the traditional State of the Nation Address during a solemn session of the National Assembly. This ceremony marks the official start of the legislative year and is a requirement outlined in Article 118 of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the session will be attended by heads of sovereign bodies, members of the Government, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Angola, as well as religious and civil society entities. In his address, President Joo Louren§o is expected to discuss the government’s main achievements over the past year, focusing on economic and administrative reforms, strengthening social justice, combating corruption, diversifying the economy, and improving citizens’ living conditions.
The President is also anticipated to present the government’s priorities for 2026, outlining public policy guidelines for strategic sectors and assessing gains in foreign policy and regional diplomacy. This session signifies the formal resumption of the National Assembly’s work after a two-month recess, and it is expected that important legislative instruments will be analyzed and approved in the coming months, notably the 2026 General State Budget and structural laws in various sectors.
