Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o returned to the country’s capital Friday from the city of Mo§Smedes (Namibe province), where he opened some socio-economic infrastructures. Upon arrival, the statesman received greetings from the Vice President, Esperan§a da Costa, and other senior government officials in the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, during his visit, President Joo Louren§o inaugurated the Mo§Smedes Bay Integrated Development Project, which includes the expansion and modernization of the Sacomar Commercial and Mineral Port, the new container terminal, and the “Mussungo Bitoto” Cultural Center. The new infrastructure places the Port of Namibe on the global trade route.
The project represents the rebirth of an industrial icon that is now establishing itself as a strategic driver for the development of the national mining economy and the creation of new opportunities for Angola and its people. Speaking to the press, President Joo Louren§o congratulated Namibe on gaining a new, modern container terminal and a Sacomar Mining Terminal, which will now accommodate miners from the interior of the country, particularly from the provinces of Hula, Cubango, and Cuando.
He noted that with the inauguration of these port facilities, the project also aims to move toward integration with other transportation systems, particularly road and rail, with the Mo§medes Railway being integrated with this infrastructure. He also praised the social responsibility of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, which will now house the new Namibe Cultural Center and transform the space into a leading cultural center for the province and the southern region of the country, a project that had been stalled for half a century.
