President Joo Louren§o Extends Congratulations to Ghana on 69th Independence Anniversary

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o congratulated on Friday the government and people of Ghana on the 69th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of that West African country, which is celebrated on March 06. In a message addressed to his Ghanaian counterpart, John Dramani Mahama, the Angolan Head of State expressed, on behalf of the government and himself, congratulations on the event.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan president highlighted the importance of the date for the Ghanaian people and took the opportunity to acknowledge the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between Angola and Ghana. Joo Louren§o also expressed the desire for the continuous deepening of these relations, based on the coordination of actions and initiatives between the governments of the two countries. In the final part of the letter, Joo Louren§o wished his counterpart good health and well-being to the people of Ghana.

Cooperation between Angola and Ghana is currently undergoing a period of strategic revitalization, driven by recent diplomatic initiatives and a shared interest in strengthening economic and political relations. This renewed impetus is based primarily on investment in key sectors such as mineral resources, oil and gas, agriculture, as well as science and technology.

One of the most significant milestones in this process occurred in February 2024, with the holding of the VI Session of the Angola-Ghana Bilateral Commission, during which the two countries signed nine legal instruments aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. The agreements cover areas considered strategic for the economic development of both nations, including cooperation in mining and geology, oil and gas exploration and management, agricultural and livestock development, and exchanges in science and technological innovation.

On the political-diplomatic level, high-level dialogue has also contributed to boosting relations between the two states. In January 2025, President Joo Louren§o received his Ghanaian counterpart in Luanda, a meeting during which the two statesmen discussed issues of common interest and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.

The strengthening of relations also occurs in a relevant regional context, in which Ghana assumes the presidency of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, a regional organization headquartered in Luanda. This circumstance contributes to intensifying coordination between the two countries on matters related to maritime security, regional stability, and the promotion of peace in the Gulf of Guinea. Angola and Ghana have reinforced strategic convergence, with prospects for expanding economic, political, and institutional cooperation in the coming years.
