President Joo Louren§o Creates Commission for Pope Leo XIV’s Official Visit

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o has established a commission by decree to prepare for the official visit of Pope Leo XIV to the country. The commission is coordinated by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Maria Bragan§a.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the commission comprises various high-ranking officials, including ministers of state, heads of the civil and military houses, and ministers overseeing key areas such as interior, foreign affairs, finance, and territorial administration. Additional members include those responsible for public works, urban planning, housing, energy and water, transport, telecommunications, information technologies, social communication, culture, health, and other significant sectors.

The commission also enlists the governors of Luanda and Icolo e Bengo provinces, alongside the Secretary of State for Diplomatic Affairs and International Cooperation, the Secretary of State for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs, the Director of the Presidential Ceremonial Office, and the Commander of the Presidential Security Unit.

The Order outlines the commission's responsibilities, which include establishing the necessary material and protocol conditions for the visit's success and collaborating with the Apostolic Nunciature in Angola. The commission is tasked with executing specific duties related to Pope Leo XIV's visit and any other tasks assigned by higher authorities.

There is an emphasis on the need for close coordination with the Apostolic Nunciature in Angola and the Episcopal Conference of Angola and So Tom© (CEAST) in preparing and organizing the visit. The Order also allows the commission coordinator to invite representatives from other ministerial secretariats as needed to fulfill its responsibilities.
