Mo§smedes: President Joo Louren§o departed from Mo§Smedes, the capital of Namibe Province, heading back to Luanda after completing a working visit to the region. During this visit, he officially inaugurated the Integrated Development Project for Mo§Smedes Bay, marking a significant milestone for the province.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the project encompasses the expansion and modernization of the Sacomar Commercial and Mineral Port, the construction of a new container terminal, and the development of the “Mussungo Bitoto” Cultural Center. These advancements aim to position the Port of Namibe on the global trade route, a strategic move for Angola’s economic aspirations.
The initiative is seen as a revival of an industrial icon that promises to boost the development of Angola’s mining sector and create new employment opportunities for the local population. President Louren§o, in his address to the media, expressed his congratulations to the people of Namibe on the inauguration of the new port facilities. He highlighted the significance of the Sacomar Mining Terminal, which will facilitate the export of minerals from the country’s interior, notably from the provinces of Hula, Cubango, and Cuando.
The president emphasized that the inauguration of these port facilities marks the beginning of an integration phase with other transportation systems, including roads and railways. The Mo§Smedes Railway is set to be integrated with the newly developed infrastructure, further enhancing connectivity and trade efficiencies.
Furthermore, President Louren§o acknowledged Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s contribution to transforming the area into a premier cultural center for Namibe and the southern region of Angola. The cultural center project, which had been on hold for fifty years, is now a reality, thanks to the company’s commitment to social responsibility.
